Cultural fads come and go, as do management fads. What's Your Why?, sadly, leapt to cult status. Ask musicians why they write songs or a visual artists why they paint. Answers are simple. They want to. In some cases it's a drive. Because the impulse to create is innate. Motivation is a FORCE, not a thought form.

Sadly, leadership at the medical facility lost sight of this -- or never understood it to begin with.

For organizations, fit is vital -- what an organization's purpose is aligns with something the employee desires, too. It doesn't have to be a perfect match, just close enough. Then, if decent structures are in place to generate clear goals, fair play, etc., they can build success together.

Oof. I felt this failure of the HR team, and their 'fall'. I've been there! I love your suggestions and perspective, Kym. They're practical and actionable when trying to 'turn the Titanic.'
